The Black Archives don’t always get a massive amount of reviews, and Silence in the Library proves to be no different in that regard. We have a solid 4 stars on GoodReads (at time of writing) and not much else. But part of that not much else is Nicholas Whyte, who seems to be making his way through all of the Black Archives, reviewing as he goes. It’s nice not to feel like I’m writing these things in a vacuum, and it doesn’t heart that he seems to have generally enjoyed all the ones I’ve done so far, even as I stretch the envelope about what a book about a Doctor Who story is about.
This is an unusual Black Archive in that it ranges far beyond the story in question to look at the work of the story’s writer. But Stephen Moffat is one of the two most significant writers of New Who (I’ll not choose here between him and RTD as to who is #1 and who is #2), and so it’s definitely worth the excursion into the bigger picture.
