A genuinely brilliant SF novel
As A Kang Should Be is a book I’m extremely proud of, which you may have picked up if you’ve read the blog post about it. But I had no illusions about how likely it was to get reviewed: this is a book set in the world of a Doctor Who story from the last century, after all. It has a limited audience, because it’s just that kind of book. I thought I’d got the best review I would get when my eldest read it and said on bit of it had made her cry unexpectedly.
But then a couple of other reviews appeared, both of them more glowing than probably any reviews I’ve had in my entire career. That they came from DWAS (where I started my writing life) and Philip Purser-Hallard (who I still rate as one of the best writers to come out of the wilderness years) just made them all the more special. It’s nice that at least two people liked this book as much as I do. Hopefully, they might convince a couple more members of the target audience to take a chance with it.
One of the most original pieces of Doctor Who-related fiction I’ve read – and perhaps one of the most necessary. It’s highly recommended.
